Modi@25: BJP begins converting governance into a political narrative

The BJP's announcement of the “Seva Sankalp Abhiyan”, running from 17 September to 17 October 2026, to mark Narendra Modi's 25 years in public life is politically significant. The campaign will include nationwide programmes, visits to development sites, exhibitions, welfare outreach, cleanliness drives and extensive social-media participation.

This looks less like a conventional birthday celebration and more like an attempt to institutionalise the Modi governance narrative ahead of the next political cycle. The planned focus on GIFT City, infrastructure, border villages, welfare delivery and innovation suggests the BJP wants the political conversation to move from personalities towards a measurable “development legacy”.

At the same time, the corporate landscape is showing a very different kind of churn. On September 9, Adani Airports announced a roughly $1 billion equity raise involving Temasek, BlackRock, Alpha Wave Global and Premji Invest, valuing the airport operator at about $18 billion before the investment. Conversely, Coforge chairman Om Prakash Bhatt's resignation following an internal audit triggered a sharp market reaction.

India's current story is increasingly one of state-led infrastructure ambition adding with private capital mobilisation, but investors are simultaneously demanding stronger corporate governance. That tension may become a major theme of the next few months.
