Uttar Pradesh to go slow on UCC?

Despite Home Minister Amit Shah’s push to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) across NDA-ruled states by 2029, Yogi Adityanath’s government in Uttar Pradesh may strategically delay its rollout until after the 2027 assembly elections. The primary motive is to prevent narrative polarization that could directly benefit the opposition Samajwadi Party (SP). 

The SP aggressively opposes the code, with Akhilesh Yadav branding it an "Underground Communal Conspiracy". Implementing the UCC now risks consolidating the crucial Muslim-Yadav demographic entirely behind the SP. By pausing the legislation, the ruling party neutralizes this defensive polarization strategy, ensuring the upcoming electoral battle remains focused on development and governance rather than emotive religious debates.
