Bihar Elections to be announced today

The Election Commission of India is set to announce the schedule for the Bihar Legislative Assembly elections today, October 6, 2025. These elections will be held for all 243 constituencies in Bihar, marking the first major electoral event after a special intensive revision of electoral rolls that saw the removal of 68.5 lakh duplicate and invalid entries. The Bihar Assembly’s current term ends on November 22, 2025, necessitating the elections before this date.

The election is expected to be fiercely contested, mainly between the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the opposition Mahagathbandhan led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). Newly introduced measures include 17 voter-friendly initiatives by the Election Commission to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections. These include colored photographs on EVMs, ease in poll-related information access, and allowance for mobile phones near polling stations for voters. Polling phases and dates will be officially unveiled this afternoon.

Senior party leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh has been asked to hold discussion with National Conference leaders in this connection. The National Conference is its alliance partner. Singh is expected to speak with NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah or Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. In the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls, the NC-Congress alliance is poised to comfortably secure three of the four seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is in a strong position to win the remaining seat. In the current house composition, the ruling alliance holds 53 members, while the BJP has 28.
