Will RSS Founder, Keshav Baliram Hedgewar be conferred with Bharat Ratna?

BJP leaders have formally written to President Droupadi Murmu requesting that the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, be conferred on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar. The move has stirred conversations both within political circles and among the public. While many view the appeal as a mere formality, given the influence RSS wields in today’s political landscape, others argue that it is a recognition long overdue for the founder of one of India’s largest socio-cultural organizations. Supporters highlight Hedgewar’s role in building an institution that has consistently engaged in nationalist mobilisation and community service for nearly a century. Critics, however, remain divided, pointing to Hedgewar’s ideological moorings and asserting that the award could serve more as a political endorsement than historical recognition. The request also underscores BJP’s continued effort to underline the RSS’s legacy in the national narrative, particularly by aligning it with state honours.

On similar lines of strategy the BJP has adopted earlier in many states, the party is toying with the idea of fielding some of its former as well as sitting MPs in the upcoming Bihar Assembly election. The party is seriously discussing fielding some of its other sitting and former MPs.

BJP has reportedly decided to drop more than 15 MLAs in poll-bound Bihar. The party high-command has received the feedback that new faces might reap a better result. The party has reportedly discussed 150 Assembly seats. The leaders were also unanimous that first list of candidates will be announced soon after the poll schedule is published by the Election Commission. The party has decided its candidates in Seemanchal, Bettiah, Samastipur, and Araria regions.

The Jan Suraj Party is reportedly preparing to escalate its attack on the ruling NDA by releasing more names of JDU and BJP leaders allegedly involved in corruption.
