Opposition’s change of stance

Initially, while extending support to the government over the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, the Congress had also raised concerns about security and intelligence lapses and demanded accountability. It urged swift action and called for a united stand to teach Pakistan a lesson. However, later the tone shifted significantly. After Operation Sindoor, Congress and other Opposition parties offered unqualified support to the government and lauded the armed forces for their valour. This contrasts sharply with 2019, when after the Balakot airstrikes following the Pulwama attack, many Opposition parties accused the BJP of politicizing the armed forces’ sacrifices, particularly during the ongoing Lok Sabha election campaign at the time.
