Indian High Commissioner Suneet Mehta hailed as transformative $900K Kiribati Project takes off
Marking a major milestone in bilateral relations, the India-UN Development Partnership Fund has launched a US$900,000 Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) project in Kiribati. Implemented by the UNDP, this initiative will establish processing plants in Nonouti and Teraina, providing crucial skills training and sustainable livelihoods for outer-island communities.
The launch event in Tarawa was graced by Kiribati President H.E. Taneti Maamau. Indian High Commissioner Shri Suneet Mehta lauded for championing this partnership and Hon. Tangariki Reete, Kiribati’s Minister for Tourism, Commerce, Industry & Cooperatives, highlighted the project's transformative economic impact. By boosting local VCO production, India’s strategic assistance reinforces its commitment to empowering the people of Kiribati and fostering long-term, sustainable development in the Pacific.
