British legacy of supremacy continues
The British legacy of supremacy of IAS over other services continues despite more than 70 years of independence. DMs never oversee crime and order situations but they boss over IPS officers even much senior to them. This must change right away.

It’s a permanent fixture
It is not for the first time that Kasuri was in India and feasted by his close friend Mani Shankar Aiyer. He is here every second month a permanent fixture in any seminar or talk on the subject of indo-Pak relations. As a matter of fact, for some persons particularly a Gentleman based in Calcutta, holding such meetings on Kashmir and Indo-Pak relations is a regular business. Not only such meetings are held here where this group which includes Mani Shankar and others like him meet but their "friends" in Pakistan also reciprocate the step by holding these 'get-togethers' in Pakistan which are then attended by this group. Kasuri of course is always presiding over the meetings here. The gentleman from Calcutta who is running the Kashmir conflict business mentions this on the invitation card he hands over to people around to get an audience. One such meeting was scheduled at India International centre on the date after the Pathankot attack. I thought the organizer of this meeting would cancel these indo-Pak talks to be held in one of the Committee rooms of IIC after this ghastly terror attack. But no. They went ahead and had their usual bonhomie. When I spotted this motley Group including the diplomat turned politician at IIC going back after the talks, I was disgusted and angry. Not for them the value of a soldier's life or the integrity of the country. For them the show must go on. Kashmir conflict suits them so does the sour Indo-Pak relations. If these are over their business and hobby will take a hit and there will be no more talks on which Kasuri the regular guest will Preside. Maybe they will create some other problem to keep themselves busy .
