All eyes are on the post of Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) as far as the appointment of Dr Nalin Shinghal and extension of present incumbent Atul Sobti to the post are concerned. The Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) led by Prime Minister is expected to take final decision in a couple of days. The concerned Ministry has doubted the capability of Dr Shinghal, who bailed out Central Electronics Limited (CEL) to a profit level. Some sources are of the view that the ACC can approve the appointment of Dr Shinghal as Government of India is laying a special emphasis on external competent candidates. Extension to Sobti can queer the pitch of Dr Shingal in line with Prakash Chand, who was deprived of becoming CMD by giving extension to then CMD, B P Rao in 2013.
